3 Stay Home Workout Tips for Moms and Kids

Mom and daughter stretching

We know parents and caregivers are busy juggling the demands of work, school and home life in the “new normal.” Since squeezing in a workout may have dropped down on your to-do list, we’re here to help.

Check out these activity tips for busy families to get moving.
  1. Get active @ home.

A good starting goal is the AHA recommendation for physical activity in adults of at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity per week. But don’t sweat the numbers — just move more! Find exercises you like and will stick with, then build more opportunities to be active into your routine.

You don’t need a gym or fancy equipment — just grab your shoes and your water and join us for a 10-Minute Home Workout. This interactive workout will walk you through each exercise and help boost your heart rate and get you moving.

  2. Remember: We’re here for you - #GoRedGetFit

If you’re looking for ways to stay motivated, join us and  #GoRedGetFit. The #GoRedGetFit Facebook group is an active community dedicated to encouraging and supporting women as they work to live healthier lives.

As 2020 Go Red for Women Real Woman Tasya Lacy always says, “Find something you love and move!” Find some form of physical activity you — or your kids — love and do it!

Watch Andia Winslow, Go Red For Women fitness contributor, demonstrate an easy kitchen workout.

  3. Incorporate fun for the whole family.

Not only is being active good for your heart, it encourages the whole family to be healthier. Try to get your kids active for 60 minutes a day to give them a better chance of a healthy adulthood. Only 20% of kids get enough activity to meet the AHA Recommendations for Physical Activity in Kids.

That’s why the AHA and the National Football League (NFL) in collaboration with Discovery Education, the leading provider of digital curriculum resources, digital content and professional development for K-12 classrooms, are working together to make physical activity fun and inspire healthy lifestyles.

Here are some ways you can get your kids up and moving:
    • The NFL PLAY 60 Virtual Field Trip is an all-access pass to behind the scenes of Super Bowl LIV in Miami. Huddle Up and Get Moving with NFL players, cheerleaders, students and AHA volunteers. Watch the virtual field trip  to learn more about physical activity and wellness.

    • With the NFL PLAY 60 App you can take real steps to move in the game, explore your surroundings and collect characters to build your ultimate team for competition. Watch your ranking on the leader board as you run, jump, dance, catch and see your fellow players do the same.

Leveraging the AHA’s health expertise and the NFL’s commitment to physical fitness, you can help us achieve our goal of getting kids physically active for 60 minutes every day all year long. Starting in childhood, lifelong healthy eating and regular physical activity are key to great cardiovascular health and to preventing heart disease and its risk factors.
